Andy Murray - USA Hockey CEP Level 3

Coach Andy Murray is a native of Massena, NY. Growing up he played soccer, football, baseball and hockey. But his first love and favorite sport has always been hockey. He learned to skate at the age of four on an outdoor rink, and as a young hockey player, he played in the Massena minor hockey program from (then) Mosquito through Junior “A.” He was lucky enough to have played on four A-level NY State Champion Teams as a Squirt, Midget, and High School player. His 1981 Midget “A” team was nationally ranked in the Top three, and his High School hockey team – the Massena Red Raiders – won two consecutive NY High School Hockey State Championships during his Junior and Senior seasons. After graduating High School in Massena in 1982, he played Prep School Hockey at the Kent School in Kent Connecticut. His competitive hockey career ended with Junior “A” and Kent Prep, but he has continued to play hockey throughout his adult life, primarily with Marine teams; he is a career Marine Corps Officer and is currently stationed at Twentynine Palms, CA.Andy has also coached hockey with a number of teams and programs. His first coaching experience was in Massena, NY coaching his sister’s team in the girl’s hockey program. He has coached both house and travel teams from Mite to Midget. His primary, formal coaching experience has been with the Prince William Hockey Program in Prince William County, VA from 1998–2001; the San Diego Jr. Gulls in 2002-03; and again with Prince William between 2005-2007.
